Mount
Rainier (elevation 14,411 feet, 4,392 m) is a
stratovolcano located 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle.
It is the highest peak in the Cascade Range. The mountain and
the surrounding area comprise Mount Rainier National Park. The
mountain is mostly covered by snow and glaciers, but heat from
the volcano keeps areas of the crater rim on its summit cone
mostly free of snow and ice. The geothermal heat has also
caused the formation of glacier caves in the twin summit
craters.

Mount
Adams (elevation 12,277 feet, 3,742 m) is a stratovolcano
in the Cascade Range and the second-highest mountain in the
Pacific Northwest of North America. Adams is located in a
remote wilderness approximately 35 miles (56 km) east of Mount
St. Helens. The Mount Adams Wilderness only comprises the
upper part of the volcano's cone.

Mount
Baker (elevation 10,778 feet, 3,285 m) is a glaciated
andesitic stratovolcano in the Cascades of Washington State
about 30 miles (50km) due east of the city of Bellingham.
After Mount Rainier, Baker is the most heavily glaciated of
the Cascade volcanoes: the volume of snow and ice on Mount
Baker is greater than that of all the other Cascades volcanoes
(except Rainier) combined. It is also one of the snowiest
places in the world: in 1999, Mount Baker set the world record
for snowfall in a single season. (1140 inches/95 feet/2896 cm)

Mount Stuart (elevation 9,415 feet, 2,869 m) is the second highest
non-volcanic mountain in the Washington Cascades. Mount Stuart
is contained within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, located in
the central part of the Washington Cascades, south of Stevens
Pass and east of Snoqualmie Pass.

Mount Shuksan (elevation 9,127 feet, 2,782 m) is a glaciated peak in the
North Cascades, Washington. Shuksan lies immediately to the
east of Mount Baker, just south of Canada. Shuksan is composed
of Shuksan Greenschist, oceanic basalt that was metamorphosed
when the Easton terrain smashed into the west coast of North
America, approximately 120 million years ago.

Mount St. Helens (elevation 8,364 feet, 2,550 m) is an active stratovolcano in
the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is
located 96 miles (154 km) south of the city of Seattle and 53
miles (85 km) northeast of Portland, Oregon. The mountain,
part of the Cascade Range, takes its English name from the
British diplomat Lord St Helens, who was a friend of George
Vancouver, an explorer who made a survey of the area in the
late 18th century. Mount St. Helens is a part of the Pacific
Ring of Fire that includes over 160 active volcanoes. This
volcano is well known for its ash explosions and pyroclastic
flows.
