My Dear Fellow Marathi Speakers
This communiqué comes straight from the concerned heart of a Maharashtrian
who feels passionately about the unequivocal propagation of our mother
tongue in a distant foreign land.
It is being observed that many conscious parents settled in the UK have
made sure, even if it entails some force, that their children keep a conscious
link with their heritage by learning their mother tongue as one of their
GCSE subjects. As a result, children learning languages as diverse as
Punjabi, Urdu, Hebrew, Chinese, Bengali etc. manage to finish successfully
at least one of their several GCSE subjects at the age of 12-13. However,
with deep concern and considerable efforts I have managed to achieve some
success in this direction.
From next academic year, i.e. Sep02, we will be running Marathi
classes at different levels, starting from Junior level to GCSE/ A-level
equivalent.
Unfortunately, no efforts have been made in the past to recognise Marathi
language with British Examination Boards. I have now taken up this matter
with different boards and British Institute of Linguistics & will
keep you informed about the progress.
Materials/tapes and related matters will be available from The Khalsa
College from September 02 onwards and requisite classes will commence
from September 02 on Saturdays. Also, to make it more convenient
and practical, students can also appear for the requisite exams externally
through The Khalsa College.
Its never too late to learn anything and I sincerely hope that many
of you will take full advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
Yours sincerely
