the city has a large population of Indians, there are very few Maharashtrians.

Marathi
Mitra Mandal, Leicester was originally set up by Pandit Vasant Panshikar
(Aba) and colleagues in the 1980s. However the Mandal's regular activities
started in 1990. Due to the small population, we restrict ourselves to
celebrating Maharashtra's specific festivals such as GANESH USTSAV and
GUDHI PADWA only. We aslo organise concerts of visiting SHASHTRIYA SANGIT
artists.
The active
members of the Mandal include Mrs Hruta Kulkarni, Drs Vidula and Madhukar
Ambekar, Capt. Vijay and Mrs Chhaya Dighe, Mrs Nalini Kamat, Mr Anand
and Mrs Hema Vaidya , Drs Shreedhar and Sujata Vaidya and Mrs Kamal Puntambekar,
Amit & Shruti Chandratreya, Smita Honap, Nutan Honap.
If you or your friends are new to the Midlands then we would love to here
from you. We would be also be interested in having contacts with other
Maharashtrian (Maraathhy) Societies from around the world.

Dear Marathi friends,
This year's VASANTOTSAV (dinner and dance) is being celebrated
at Leicester on the evening of Saturday, 16th April 2005. As per
previous years, the Mandal has subsidized the event to get maximum value
to the community. The venue is at Gujarathi Arya Association, 49 Hildyard

Programme in brief:
17:45 - 18:30 - Welcome and Registration
18:30 - start
Dinner and dance to Hindi-Marathi songs till late
Special Marathi Orchestra ~ 23:00 + close.
There is ample parking
space. Bar facility would be available.
Registration is
strictly by advance payment only. However, all cheques are cashed only
after the event.
Contributions:
Over 12 and adults : £ 13 per person
3-12 years : £ 7 each
UNDER 3 years : FREE (but kindly include name and numbers)
