Re: Maharashtra Mandal, Londons Building Development
The Mandal acquired its present premises on a 99 years lease basis in
1991 and since then, it continues to organise 10 to 12 cultural functions
every year for the benefit and entertainment of its members. The most
important annual event is "Shree Ganesh Festival", when every
family with its members visits the mandal during the 10 days of festivity.
In addition, it undertakes many other activities on a regular basis such
as: "Dnyaneshwari" for the senior and elderly, sport facilities-badminton
and table tennis, local talent shows, plays/dramas, song concerts and
dance performances etc. Thus, the building itself has become a very essential
place, that has enabled the Mandal to successfully carryout its cultural,
social and sport activities for the benefit and entertainment of its members.
When purchased, the church building was dilapidated and redundant. The
Mandal renovated the building and made it a habitable and usable community
centre that it is to day. However, the building desperately needs good
facilities- toilets, a storeroom and multi-functional rooms such as an
office, a library and a meeting/conference room etc .
Therefore, we planned the building extension and improvement project in
1995 for which we obtained the planning permission in 1997. Regrettably,
due to lack of enough funds, we have been unable to carry out the building
work, so far. It is now imperative that we should start a construction
work before the planning permission expiry date of 15th April 2002.
We have now selected a competitive builder out of 3 builders and signed
the respective building construction contract worth £70,000.00 with
him. The construction work has started on 28.03.02. Further construction
jobs will be assigned to the builder, as and when the required funds are
collected. We need to collect a further donation of £40,000.00 within
the next 6-months in order to complete the east side of extension building.
We have appealed to our members for their donations in our February 2002s
newsletter and hopeful of receiving a good response from them. We collected
£6,500.00 during the Annual General Meeting on 24.03.2002.
"UK Mitra" has nearly 200 members and of which some might be
members of the Mandal. However, the majority of them are not. Hence, we
requested Mr Neal Sarangdhar of UK Mitra, London to relay this appeal
letter to all UK Mitras members. We greatly appreciate Neals
timely assistance/help in this matter.
We are urgently in need of financial assistance for the building project
and would be extremely grateful for donations from UK Mitras members.
It could be paid by a single cheque payable to Maharashtra Mandal, London
Building Fund. Members could donate any amount of donation, under
the Governments Gift Aid Scheme, enabling UK taxpayers (donors),
especially higher rate taxpayers would get a 18% tax relief of the donation
amount.
A gift
aid declaration form, and a brief note on the new tax changes are attached
separately for members information purposes. The completed Gift
Aid Declaration form and a donation cheque should be sent to the mandals
address (attention: Mr M S Pawar-Senior Treasurer), 306 Dollis Hill Lane,
London NW2 6HH.
The Mandal offers UK Mitra- Members the following benefits:
1) A member, who pays a donation of £100.00 and above, will be offered
an annual ordinary membership of the Maharashtra Mandal, London for l
year period.
2) If the Mandal collects total donations of £1,000.00 and above,
the mandal will offer free usage of its hall to UK Mitras for a
function of their choice.
3) UK Mitra members are aware that Maharashtra Mandal London has been
formed by their parent generation. The Mandals the present building
was purchased and renovated out of financial donations paid by their parents.
Besides, they (parents) are continuously supporting and enjoying the mandals
social and cultural activities/functions. By way of giving some financial
aid to the Mandal, UK Mitras members are in return contributing
towards the entertainment and benefit of their parents.
Please help the Maharashtra Mandal, Londons progress.
God bless you, all and thank you,
G. S. Kanegaonkar-Chairperson,
Fund Raising Committee of Maharashtra Mandal, London.
